• Uses for UNWANTED timber

I define weedy tree species here as those species included on the State Noxious Weeds List:
        1. Russian olive Elaeagnus angustifolia 
        2. Tree of heaven Ailanthus altissima
        3. Saltcedar Tamarix spp. 
        4. Siberian elm Ulmus pumila

PLEASE NOTE! there are other elms that come highly recommended for planting in NM urban landsapes, like - the Chinese or lacebark elm (Ulmus parvifolia), American elm (Ulmus americana), and many well-liked cultivars and hybrids (Frontier...) ⇦ for more info, visit the recent blog on Siberian elms with guest writer Dr. Leslie Beck!

What’s Wrong with MY Tree? PART 2: Oozing Stains on Tree Trunk

The bad news is it’s not fixable, but it’s also not causing a problem. Slimeflux is an indicator of an underlying decay issue. Photo credit Joy E. Question: My husband and I just bought a house with a beautiful cottonwood tree in the back yard. We noticed a gooey, rotting section in the crook of the trunk. We certainly don't want to lose this gorgeous tree! Do you know what this is and how we can treat it? Answer: Yes, I know what it is and what caused it.
